The story of a bridge builder

9 September 2024

A father and his son lived peacefully and in complete harmony. They lived off the produce of their fields and herds. They worked together and shared what they harvested. It all started with a small misunderstanding. A growing rift then developed between them until a violent argument broke out. From then on, they avoided all contact and neither spoke a word to the other.

One day, someone knocked on the son's door. It was a man, he was looking for work.
"Can I perhaps do some repairs on them?" "I already have work for you," replied the son. "My father's house is on the other side of the stream. Some time ago he
offended me badly. I want to prove to him that I can live without him. There's an old ruin behind my property and you'll find a big pile of stones in front of it. I want you to use them to build a 2-metre-high wall in front of my house. That way, I'm sure I won't see my father again."
"I understand," the man replied.

Then the son went travelling for a week. When he returned home, the man had finished his work.
What a surprise for the son! He hadn't expected anything like this. Instead of a wall, the man had built a beautiful bridge. The father came out of his house, ran over the bridge and took his son into his arms.
the arms.

"What you have done is simply marvellous! You had a bridge built when I had seriously offended you! I'm proud of you and ask for your forgiveness." While father and son celebrated reconciliation, the man tidied up his tools and prepared to move on. "No, why don't you stay with us, because there's work for you here," they told him.
The man replied: "I would love to stay with you, but I still have many bridges to build elsewhere ...".
